We have drafted activity logs to make it easier for you to record your supervised hours toward licensure. The state does not require these logs, nor will you be asked to provide them at any time during your licensure application process. We have created them for you to keep as a record of your clinical experience. There are two forms, one to record your clinical hours and the other to record your supervision hours. Both can be either signed or initialed by your site-supervisor, with copies given to your supervisor for their records.
Contact our office to request these forms as either Word or PDF documents.
NYMHCA: Helping you realize your professional dreams!
Have you wondered how you can help NYMHCA without spending one dime?........by registering with iGive.com and Goodsearch.com!
When you go to iGive.com, register, and choose NYMHCA as the organization you want to receive rewards, you can then shop at the more than 600 stores available. For every purchase you make, NYMHCA will receive a small percentage. (see link on the left side of this page)
Please use Goodsearch.com to search the internet. It's a Yahoo search engine. Information Packet Available to Job Seekers
NYMHCA is making available a packet of material that can assist you in finding a job. Included will be our mental health counselor definition, a comparison between the education of social workers and mental health counselors, a copy of the regulations for the NYS Office of Mental Health that states that mental health counselors are considered qualified providers, and other information that you will find useful. To receive this packet in either a Word format or in PDF, contact our office.
Now Available from NYMHCA: a Superbill for those in private practice.
A "superbill" is a term for a billing format for the mental health clinician who wants to increase their acceptance by insurance companies and handle billing in a simplified manner. Using this strategy allows the client to submit the bill directly to the insurance company, and often results in the acceptance of LMHC's onto insurance panels or as out-of-network providers. Click on the "Insurance Companies" link on the left side of this page to find more info.
**NYS Education Department Professions Law Enforcement!
The SED has begun looking very closely at the places where grads want to work to accrue their 3,000 hours. As a result they are now refusing many limited permit applications for all professions. This is not new policy but rather an attempt to more closely follow what is written in the laws governing the professions.
Some limited permit applicants are receiving letters asking for a copy of the operating certificate/license for the agency, or evidence that the agency is a professional corporation. In the past we were told that grads could work in licensed professionals' private practices. Now they are saying that the licensed practitioner/employer MUST be a professional corporation in order for the applicant’s hours to count. For a copy of the letter being sent to some limited permit applicants, please contact our office.
Please note! Some applicants are contacting SED to ask if the agency where they have been offered a job is an acceptable site. If they are told that it is, the applicants assume that the job they were offered would be considered as appropriate for accruing their hours toward licensure. In fact, they are two different things. SED can tell you that a site is approved (has the appropriate credentials/licenses) but they will not comment on a job within that agency! Make sure that the job you take has enough client-contact hours where you are assessing and treating clients, in addition to any other duties within the job description. SED will only count the client contact hours, and the time for phone calls, case notes and supervision toward your 3,000 hours!
